In the current economic climate here in the UK, any possibility of seeing your household expenditure come down has got to be welcomed. Many of you who own a campervan will also likely own a family saloon car that you use on a daily basis. If that is the case then you will be insuring both vehicles.
If that is the case then you may find it of interest to read that in the last few quarters the average cost of insuring a car has been reducing according to the Confused.com Car Insurance Price Index. Whilst the index relates to insuring the likes of a family hatchback it may also be that premiums have reduced for insuring a campervan as it is a motor vehicle just like a car.
The above index reveals that the average premium paid by drivers to insure a car in the UK in the last quarter of 2024 was £834 per annum. That is a fall of £161 per annum when compared with a year ago and £27 per annum less than 3 months ago. We are sure that you will agree any saving that you may be able to make is to be welcomed with open arms.
A motor insurance company takes into account a lot of factors when deciding how much to charge you for your cover. For instance, it will look at the make and model of the vehicle, how many miles you drive in it each year, your age and where you reside.
Take the age of a driver, for example. In the 4th quarter of 2024 an 18 year old was charged an average of £2,605 per annum to insure his or her car with that being £557 per annum less than 12 months ago. A 23 year old was charged an average of £1,566 per annum – a huge difference. As a general rule, a younger driver is more likely to be involved in a road accident involving his or her car than a more mature driver so this is one reason why young drivers tend to be charged more to insure their cars.
