Overnight Parking Ban For Campervans

Those of you who own a campervan or are considering hiring one and making for North Yorkshire in the next few weeks or months may be interested to hear that an overnight parking ban is being introduced in three specific locations. It will be interesting to see if this results in a number of leisure vehicle owners deciding to avoid that part of the north of England for the time being.

We have to say that North Yorkshire has some stunning scenery. For instance, there is the Yorkshire Dales with its Yorkshire stonewalls marking the boundaries to fields with flocks of sheep in them. There is the North Yorkshire Moors with its wild expanse of open countryside partly covered in heather at a certain time of the year and let’s not forget some delightful seaside locations such as Filey.

Campervans are to be banned from the 21st October 2024 from staying overnight between the hours of 11pm up until 7am in three locations with these being a part of the North Bay in Scarborough, Cayton Bay and a parking area on the A174 close to Whitby.

The ban is apparently going to run initially for a period of 6 months so it could be argued that is a quieter period of the year as far as tourism is concerned. Nevertheless, it will probably disappoint quite a few campervan owners who enjoy staying overnight in one of the above three locations.  The ban has been put in place by North Yorkshire Council due to the risk of fire and behavior of an anti social manner. Of course, most campervan owners are respectful of where they camp overnight and what they do there but it only takes a small minority to spoil it for others.

Of course, it is going to mean that if you were planning to stay overnight in your campervan or motorhome at one of the above places and still intend to go to those areas of North Yorkshire you will have to find another place to park up for a night or two. You could try to do some wild camping or you could find yourself a lovely campsite with all the facilities you could possibly need.

If you do decide to make the trip to close to any of the above three North Yorkshire locations we do hope that you manage to find somewhere to park your campervan overnight that meets your standards.
