If you happened to take and pass your driving test here in the UK before the 1st January 1997 then your driving license will state that you are also covered to drive Category C1 vehicles as well as the likes of a family saloon car. This means that you can drive a vehicle weighing between 3,500kg and 7,500kg. However, if you took and passed your driving test after the 1st January 1997 you would be obliged to take an additional driving test that enables you to obtain Category C entitlement and therefore dive a vehicle weighing between 3,500kg and 7,500kg.
However, when you get to 70 years of age, you have to apply to have your UK driving license renewed and every three years thereafter. How good your eyesight is is one factor that impacts whether your driving license will be renewed. It is worth noting that if you are going to rent or already own a campervan that weighs between 3,500kg.and 7,500kg you will also need to apply for Category C1 entitlement.
There may be a number of people who own a campervan that weighs between 3,500kg to 7,500kg who are 70 years of age but do not realize the above and just continue to drive their leisure vehicle even though it is illegal to do so. If you have a friend or family member who is in the above situation then why not give them the “heads up”.
If your existing campervan insurance is shortly coming up for renewal then why not take a few minutes to shop around and see if you can get a better deal with another provider. In this respect, feel free to get in touch with us and we will see if we can get you a better deal than your existing insurer is offering you for the next 12 months. We very much look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
