Here in the UK, the cost of living has risen by a huge amount over the last year or two with things like utility bills, food and mortgage repayments increasing. Unfortunately, other things like car insurance and campervan insurance have also gone up.
When you receive your campervan insurance renewal notice do you bother to check if the premium is going to be different for the next year? If not, you really should do so as, unless you are very lucky, it is quite likely that your campervan insurance provider is going to charge you quite a bit more for your cover for the next year.
Did you know that, according to the Confused.com Car Insurance Price Index, the average premium being charged for car insurance in the last quarter of 2023 here in the UK has risen by 58%? Such premiums have gone up from an average of £629 per annum to an average of £995 per annum. Therefore, it will be surprising if you do not find when you receive your campervan insurance renewal notice that the premium has risen by quite a sizeable amount.
If you happen to live in Inner London then it could be even worse as the average car insurance premium in that region was £1,607 per annum in Q4 of last year. In Leeds/ Sheffield premiums averaged £1,127 per annum and in the North West the average car insurance premium was £940 per annum. The cheapest region for car insurance was the South West with premiums averaging £636 per annum. Some of the reasons for price variations in different regions will be due to the number of vehicles in those regions as the more cars the more likely are you to be involved in a road traffic accident and there are likely to be more car thefts in say Inner London than say the South West.
Whilst there are probably not going to be a huge number of 18 year olds driving campervans it is worth noting that an 18 year old is paying an average of £3,162 per annum to be insured to drive a car – more than any other age of driver.
